Hol operates the kokee natural history museum as the primary visitor information center for waimea canyon & kokee state parks with no government funding for its operations. The museum typically greets 90,000 visitors annually. The state parks & the museum were closed for 3 & 1/2 months due to the pandemic.

For many years, hui o laka has sponsored two major innovative interpretive festivals. Typically held in may, the banana poka roundup (a forest education fair) was cancelled this year due to the pandemic.

With the help of several grants in aid from the hawaii state legislature, and a considerable effort of dedicated volunteers, hui o laka has continued the long-term renovation of the historic civilian conservation corps (CCC) camp at kokee. The camp was placed on both the hawaii and national registers of historic places in 1996.
