Reef check's fast growing network played a major role in reports to preserve and sustain reef ecosystems. Reef check teams work with business sectors such as tourism diving, surfing and the marine aquarium trade. These teams developed mutually beneficial solutions including createing of self-funding marine protected areas. Reef check received international environmental acclaim for its work, and was named the United Nations's officual community based reef monitoring program. Reef Check Foundation performs three vital tasks necessary to promote stewardship of sustainable reef communities worldwide: 1) We train and organize teams of local volunteer citizen scientist divers. They collect data on reef health and assess climate change impacts on their reefs.
