The basin street regulars was founded in 1976 to preserve and propagate dixieland/traditional jazz. The bsr accomplishes this goal/charter by providing monthly live music, sunday jazz sessions for members, jazz festivals, the jubilee by the sea event, providing scholarships to young musicians, encouraging young musicians to join jammers at sunday jazz, and by hiring hs bands for intermission.

The main program is providing live music for monthly members, guests, and the general public. The main program is held on the last sunday of each month. The program is highly advertised on social media and the local news. A professional band is contracted to play two, one hour sets.

The jubilee by the sea (virtual in 2020) is a major undertaking. This multiple day event was held virtually in 2020 and band members from all over the country participated in the event.
