Activities include the following: creating a bi-monthly newsletter to members and other educational partners(except for july); provide professional development and networking opportunities, both regionally and state-wide focused on mental health for teachers and students; effectively leading initiatives focused on curriculum, instruction, and assessment; and creating and leading a positive learning environment focused on meeting the needs of all learners.

The fall academy and the spring academy are conference made available to educators in iowa. Due to the pandemic the 2020 offerings were limited. The spring and fall academies were postponed until 2021.

The iowa ascd provides mentoring for curriculum leads, holds a summer institure and is planning the iowa academic institute 2021 in collaboration with the iowa department of education. Due to the pandemic the 2020 summer institue was cancelled.
