The VRSF accepted 50 applications to support research in 2020 and funded 20 $2,000 research awards and 4$10,000 fellowship awards. The research awards are for medical students, residents and fellows who want to do a research project during their clinical training.

Vitreoretinal surgery foundation organized and offered education classes and seminars on the topics of retina and macular disease, related clinical research, and the various medical or surgical treatments that are available.

The retinal detachment study aims to compare effectiveness of three surgical procedures for primary retinal detachment through collection and analysis of a large, comprehensive and accurate data set. To date, 100% of cases across 6 sites have been entered, and 5 of the 6 sites have verified their data.
