Nysarc was founded in 1949 to meet a critical mission -- to improve the quality of life for people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities. Nysarc, INC. Fulton-Schoharie Counties chapter's (DBA lexington center) mission is to provide the best possible services for children and adults who are disabled and their families, to be the best possible employer for its employees, and to otherwise contribute to the good of the community.

Individualized residential alternative (ira) is a home in the community for one or more persons. The majority of the homes are supervised residences which provide supervision and assistance on a twenty four hour basis and may require certain self-maintenance skills as a prerequisite to admission.

Day habilitation services are structured activities and supports provided in natural settings or chapter facilities to promote independence, inclusion, choice, self-esteem, and skill development.

Supportive employment is a service provided to individuals with developmental or intellectual disabilities who may have difficulty finding and keeping a job. Job coaches and trainers support these individuals so they can fully participate in their communities through employment. Approximately 85 persons are served.
