Founded in 2004 by Academy Award Winning Actor Geena Davis, the Institute is the only global research-based organization working collaboratively within the entertainment industry to create gender balance, foster inclusion and impede negative stereotyping in family entertainment media.The Institute uses data to mitigate unconscious bias in the creation of global entertainment, advertising and video gaming. Our data driven research, education and advocacy empower and inspire content creators to reimagine the media landscape to reflect the world we live in. Research drives our advocacy and empowers content creators to systemically reimagine and measure their content in order to create inclusive content for our diverse society. Our method is to share our studies and best practices directly with our content partners in a private and collegial way.Our research is unique in its approach and methods. Education & Outreach- In 2024, the Institute delivered 178 trainings, workshops, and salons, reaching 7,800 global leaders. Programs provided tools to reduce bias in storytelling and addressed urgent issues including caregiving, children?s mental health, and global advertising.
