The Library's collections include unique subsurface data, plus historic and artful maps. The data is used by geoscientists pursuing exploration ideas and researchers associated with museums and universities and by the public. The data is used to publish new understandings of the subsurface and geologic history of the earth.

In 2021, the Library opened its doors to serve as a coworking space and idea incubator for new projects, including geothermal and data analytics. A community space has been added that includes a large classroom and assembling room.
