BESR participated on a workgroup formed by the Office of the Superindentent of Public Instruction (OSPI) to initially develop guidelines and requirements for reopening schools. As the workgroup completed its work, we were part of a group of advocacy organization that continued to work with OSPI on reimagining schools.

BESR hosted only the first 2020 quarterly meeting in February. The remaining three quarterly meetings were cancelled due to Covid-19. We conducted 4-5 virtual meetings. Early Zoom meetings focused on resources for parent in their duties as educators. Other meetings addressed reopening of schools.

The close of the 2020 legislative session pivited to protecting funding achievements as the state braced for the Stay at Home order and transition to remote learning. In preparation for the 2021 legislative session BESR worked with State Board of Education staff on bill language they would submit.
