To promote and maintain effective fire management services through prevention, pre-suppression, and suppression of natural cover fires and through the use of prescribed fire. Perform and promote common services such as FEPP, training, fire prevention, fire cache, fire management concerns and equipment. Maintain an integrated all-risk response plan through use of mutual aid.

Assistance to rural fire departments in acquiring federal excess equipment for wildland fire preparation, readiness and control. Assist departments with management of federal excess equipment and provide training to firefighters, natural resource professionals, and private citizens in prescribed and wildland firefighting techniques.

Acquisition, repairs, and maintenance of fire equipment and other supplies are supported by the Compact to the four member states. This allows them to be equipped and prepared for fire suppression both within the four state area and nationally.

Fire training was provided to rural and volunteer firefighters as well as state and federal personnel. Monies are provided to help fund the training including Academy Coordinator, trainers, and participants costs.
