Where the work happens
Stewardship
Conduct annual monitoring of all easement properties and address any potential violations. Maintain trails, parking areas, and other features of fee properties. In 2025, we increased the hours of our stewardship assistant, now our stewardship director, to increase our capacity to build and maintain trails and preserves.
Restoration and Ecological Management
Combat invasive plants and restore wetlands. In 2025, work was done to combat invasive milfoil in Shapleigh Pond. In collaboration with volunteers, we planted hundreds of native shrubs and trees at the Sanford Community Forest to improve the health of the forest and attract wildlife, and installed the first of 8 bat houses near the…
Recreation and Education
Promote interest in and connection to the land through educational programs and recreational programs, including maintaining lands and trails for educational and recreational use. In 2025, we completed construction on a 2000 ft. wheelchair accessible trail at the Sanford Community Forest.
