Robert Saleem Holbrook is a prominent advocate and leader in the movement to end mass incarceration, serving as the Executive Director of the Abolitionist Law Center and a Director on the advisory board of the Amistad Law Project. He spent 27 years in prison, including a decade in solitary confinement, for an offense committed as a juvenile, before his release in 2018 following a Supreme Court ruling.
While incarcerated, he co-founded the Human Rights Coalition and became a prolific writer on prison abuse and social injustice. Holbrook's work is dedicated to dismantling the carceral state, fighting against death by incarceration, and ending solitary confinement, and he also teaches at the University of Pennsylvania's Penn Carey Law School.
