J. Michael Haynie is Chancellor and President of Syracuse University (appointed 2026), a role he ascended to after over two decades at the institution where he served as Vice Chancellor for Strategic Initiatives and Executive Dean of the Whitman School of Management.
A retired U.S. Air Force officer with 14 years of service, Haynie founded the D'Aniello Institute for Veterans and Military Families, the nation's first interdisciplinary academic institute dedicated to advancing the policy, economic and wellness concerns of America's veterans and military-connected families.
He received the Chancellor's Medal in 2021 for his leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic and was named University Professor, the most prestigious faculty distinction.
