Dr. Louis J.
Agnese Jr. served as the eighth President of University of the Incarnate Word (UIW) from 1985 until his retirement in 2016, a tenure of over three decades during which he transformed the organization.
At just 33 years old, he became one of the youngest presidents of a four-year institution in the USA. Under his leadership, UIW enrollment grew from 1,296 students in 1985 to over 11,000 by 2016, the institution transitioned from college to university status, expanded academic programs, and established Division I athletics and affiliated schools nationally and internationally.
He is now President Emeritus.
