About the role

The org's own posting, as written

Hybrid, LA area, Bay Area, NYC metro, and South Florida THE ORGANIZATION: Accion Opportunity Fund is an unparalleled financial support system that provides small business owners with access to capital, networks, and coaching. We work to build inclusive and accessible options for these determined business owners. For over 30 years we have deployed over $1 billion in over 35,000 loans and served 4 million business owners with educational resources. Our client base is nearly 90% from underserved communities.

In addition to providing resources and loans to small businesses, we also conduct original research, advocate for policy changes, and finance community construction projects in low-income neighborhoods through our New Markets Tax Credit program. AOF is on a journey to both scale our impact and become financially sustainable. We’re building a better system for underserved small businesses and a workplace where passionate problem-solvers, data-driven thinkers, and small business champions thrive.

For more information about us, visit https://aofund.org/ ROLE SUMMARY: Accion Opportunity Fund's New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) program brings private investment into community construction projects in low-income communities across the country. We have received $643 million in NMTC allocation over 15 rounds, including a record $85 million award for the 2024-2025 round. To date, we have invested $547 million across 45 high impact community projects nationally.

The NMTC Portfolio & Compliance Associate keeps that program running smoothly: monitoring the health of projects in our portfolio, making sure borrowers stay on track with their reporting, turning project data into clear impact and regulatory reports, and providing hands-on administrative support to the team. The role is a mix of analytical and administrative work. A significant part of the job is coordination: managing documents, tracking deadlines, scheduling, and keeping files and systems organized. It's a great fit for someone with strong communication and organizational skills, exceptional attention to detail, and comfort with numbers.

You'll juggle multiple reporting deadlines and relationships with borrowers, investors, and partners, working independently as you learn the role. Experience from a bank, SBA lender, CDFI, or similar lending environment translates well. Prior NMTC experience is not required. We will teach you the program. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Portfolio Monitoring & Compliance Serve as the main point of contact for borrowers on ongoing reporting requirements, collecting and reviewing items such as financial statements, insurance, and compliance certifications. Review borrower financial statements and test compliance with loan covenants, flagging concerns to the NMTC Manager.

Help prepare and update risk ratings for projects in the portfolio. Review construction draw requests and supporting documentation, working with the team and outside partners to resolve questions…
