Richard C. Harris is the John J.

in English from UNC-Chapel Hill. He is notably recognized for his work as co-chair of the Harlem Hellfighter Recognition Project, which led to the Congressional Gold Medal being awarded to the World War I African American U.S.
Army 369th Infantry Regiment, and he was selected to lead the medal's design team. He received a Certificate of Special Congressional Recognition in 2019 for his efforts in preserving the Harlem Hellfighters' story.
