Matt Brown is the Co-Founder and Executive Director of FOODWAVES, an organization dedicated to sustainable, community-driven agriculture and food justice. His journey into this work began as a Peace Corps volunteer in Togo, West Africa, in 1999, where he collaborated with farmers and NGOs on environmental education and sustainable farming techniques.
Prior to his Peace Corps service, he worked as a youth worker, leading projects to build camps, homes, and schools for underserved communities in various locations including Brazil and Mexico. He also spent seven years as a high school science teacher, developing curriculum for marine science and environmental horticulture.
Brown co-founded FoodWaves in 2010 with Bobbie Brown and Nathan McFall, driven by a vision to combine sustainable agriculture with on-farm educational opportunities. He continues to serve on the board and actively volunteers at a local nonprofit farm in Colton, Oregon, demonstrating his enduring passion for farming and community engagement.
