Matías Tarnopolsky served as President and CEO of the Philadelphia Orchestra Association from August 2018 through January 2025, overseeing a successful merger with the Kimmel Center in 2021. Born in Buenos Aires and raised in London, Tarnopolsky is a trained clarinetist who earned both bachelor's and master's degrees in music and musicology from King's College London.
Prior to Philadelphia, he held leadership roles at the New York Philharmonic (VP Artistic Planning), Chicago Symphony Orchestra (Senior Director Artistic Planning), and UC Berkeley's Cal Performances (Executive and Artistic Director since 2009). Under his tenure, the Philadelphia Orchestra received Grammy and Diapason d'or awards and received a historic $50 million endowment gift.
