Dr. Mark R.
Abbott is President Emeritus of the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI), where he served as President and Director (the tenth to hold this position) from 2015 to 2020. He earned a BS in Conservation of Natural Resources from UC Berkeley and a PhD in Ecology from UC Davis.

His oceanographic research focuses on upper ocean biological and physical processes, with prior experience at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Office of Naval Research, and the Scripps Institution of Oceanography.
