Laurence Wellikson, MD, MHM, served as the founding and only CEO of the Society of Hospital Medicine from 2000 to 2020, during which time he grew the organization from approximately 500 to over 17,000 members and oversaw the launch of the peer-reviewed Journal of Hospital Medicine. A board-certified internist with expertise in managed-care entities and strategic planning, he was recognized multiple times by Modern Healthcare as one of the Top 50 Most Influential Physician Executives and has lectured at Wharton and UC Irvine's business schools.
