Elba Montalvo is a nationally recognized child and family advocate with a career dedicated to improving the lives of children and families. She founded The Committee for Hispanic Children and Families, Inc.
in 1982 to address the needs of New York's Latino community. After Hurricane Maria devastated Puerto Rico in 2017, Montalvo was a driving force behind the creation of the Fundación de Mujeres en Puerto Rico.
Her vision was to establish a bridge between the Puerto Rican diaspora and local feminist leaders to support women's organizations on the island. The Foundation promotes social justice, economic security, safety, health, reproductive autonomy, and the general empowerment of women, girls, and gender-fluid individuals in Puerto Rico.
