Robert D. Ballard, Ph.D.
is Founder and President of the Ocean Exploration Trust and Professor of Oceanography at the University of Rhode Island. He is renowned for discovering the wreck of the RMS Titanic in 1985 and for identifying hydrothermal vents and chemosynthetic life forms in the Galapagos Rift and East Pacific Rise (1977-1979).
Founded OET in 2008 to conduct pure ocean exploration and operates the research vessel E/V NAUTILUS.
