David Young served as the Executive Director of the Writers Guild of America, West (WGAW) from 2006 until November 2023, having previously been the Interim Executive Director in 2005 and the Director of Organizing. He is a magna cum laude graduate of the University of San Diego and has dedicated his career to labor organizations as an experienced negotiator and union leader.

Young was the Guild's chief negotiator during the 2007-2008 strike and subsequent contract negotiations, and he led the successful campaign against talent agencies regarding packaging fees and affiliated production companies. Known for his tough negotiating style, he stepped down from his role in November 2023, following a medical leave in February 2023.
