Shelby is an ophthalmologist and founder of Willis Knighton Eye Institute in Shreveport, Louisiana, where he specializes in cataract surgery, corneal transplantation, and dry eye treatment. He was the first surgeon in Louisiana to be certified using the LenSx femtosecond laser for cataract surgery and developed the IExaminer technology for retinal imaging via iPhone.
A Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, he has served as Surgical Instructor at Overton Brooks Veterans' Administration Medical Center since 2003 and trains residents in ophthalmology.
